San Sebastian is a hive of incessant cultural activity ranging from contemporary art to street culture. Its numerous museums and large number of art galleries are the perfect excuse for a visit to this magical sea resort, famous for the beauty of its spectacular Concha Bay. San Sebastian is an authentic open-air museum, full of impressive sculptures such as the “El Peine del Viento” by Eduardo Chillida, one of the city’s most emblematic landmarks, and the “Construcción Vacía” by Jorge Oteiza, situated on the opposite side of the bay to the above-mentioned sculpture of Chillida.

The city’s extraordinary cultural offer has something for everyone. For example, its magnificent Aquarium on the point of presenting its latest, and most ambitious renovation carried out as part of its centennial celebrations. Here visitors will find, amongst other things, a fantastic transparent tunnel suspended in the water. Close to the Aquarium, stands the city’s Naval Museum with its two new temporary exhibitions: “San Sebastian, ciudad marina” (San Sebastian, a sea town), and “La fuerza del mar” (The force of the sea). In the meantime, some 40 other beautiful Chillida sculptures can be found housed in the Chillida-Leku Museum. Science lovers, and especially children, will definitely enjoy a visit to the kutxaEspacio Science Museum, a splendid interactive space full of exciting scientific experiments. We would also like to mention the ambitious Tabakalera Project, a contemporary cultural exhibition centre that will, this autumn, present an exhibition starring the Tabakalera factory and the Egia district. |
